TROTTING Radiant Globe in fine trial for Hutt Park

Radiant Globe, which will resume racing at Hutt Park next Wednesday, showed that he was close to top form when he beat Garcon Roux and Intrepid in a heat of the Free-for-all at trials held yesterday at Methven.

The trials were held in fine, cold weather, with the track on the slow side. A strong northerly wind affected times. Radiant Globe took the lead from Intrepid before the end 'of two furlongs, and from then on was pacing well within himself. He looked to have plenty in reserve at the finish, where he was a length in front of Garson Roux, which was in the first three all the way. The winner took 3:38 for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in 1:4. Radiant Globe should pay expenses at Hutt Park. Garcon ROux, which will resume racing at the New Brighton meeting on Saturday, was third for most of the way. He ran on well for second, two lengths in front of Intrepid, which will also resume racing on Saturday after a long spell. He looks big and bright, and much stronger than he was last season

Manaroa, making his first appearance since a successful autumn campaign in Australia, broke at the start He made up ground for fourth, ahead of another solid fininsher in Arapaho, which should go well in the H. E. Goggin Handicap on Saturday

at Addington. Local Lie paced an even race for sixth, clear of Moas-

car and Rhinegolde, which stopped in the run home aftei being in the open until the

straight entrance. Manawaru, also in the second leg of the main double at Addington Raceway, gained a dashing all-the-way win in the second heat, returning 3:51 2-5, with the last half-mile in 1:7 1-5. He should make a

bold bid to win. Brockworth King, too, paced a useful race. He finished three lengths from Manawaru. with two lengths to King Dillion, which shaded

Colonel Adois. Fingal paced a useful race for fifth, followed by Tullamore Dew, now a member of the team trained by J. Grant and D. G. Jones. Royal Belmer, which looks to be coming to hand well, headed the remainder. TWO-YEAR-OLDS Fidelio and Quick Match I gained impressive wins in the heats of the two-year-old par- ■ ade run over six furlongs and about 36 yards. They were both timed over their final six furlongs in Imin 40 2-ssec, outstanding efforts in the conditions. Fidelio (Lumber Dream—Callas) took the lead when Armbro Lou (Armbro Del—Dark Louise) tangled after about a furlong in the first heat and from then on was pacing comfortably to win by a length from Merc Bohan (Garrison Hanover—Bright Highland), a most promising type of young pacer. A Bachelor Hanover—Charm filly made up ground for third, well clear of Maudena (Bachelor Hanover—

Maudella) and Mount Batton (Honest Master-—Cabana). The last half-mile took Imin 6 2-ssec. Quick Match (Keep Away— Grace Harwar) which had shown to advantage at Washdyke earlier in the month, won the other heat after taking Imin 7 3-ssec for his last half-mile. ■He tracked a Goodland—Mara.whiti gelding until near the furlong post and came on to beat him by half a length. A Larnie Scott—Dark Secret colt was two lengths back, third, with Kotare Scott (Scottish Han-over-Linda Frost) making up ground for fourth, ahead of Anfallable (Fallacy—Preferable). BEST TIME Royal Twinkle recorded the best time in the three heats of the 2min 19sec class pace. He showed dash to win in 3min 45sec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin ssec. Roy, a candidate for the Avon Handicap on Saturday, finished a good 1 second, ahead of Johnny’s Pal and Crystalline. Much Interest tn this heat centred on the first appearance of Barbara Del, one of the top two-year-olds of last season. She started from W yards, and without being pushed finished eighth. She looks in great condition to resume racing, which will probably be at Hutt Park next week. Light Command, an entrant for Hutt Park, and also the AvonHandlcap on Saturday, won the second heat in 3mln 51 4-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin * 4-ssec. He won by a neck from Great Time and Pono. two of Ms rivals on Saturday, with Lansing and Highland Hal next. Paul Hanover recorded 3mln 50 2-s.ec In the other heat, the last half-mile In (mln 8 3-ssec. Snow Light finished second, ahead of Winter Queen and Newport Gold. Mightv Dollar, which returned 2min 48 l-ssec, Butch Cassidy, 3min 52 l-ssec, and Marius. 3mln 48sec, won the heats of the 2min 20sec class trot. Butch Cassidy, a three-year-old, w" outstandlng, returning In. 8 3-ssec for his last half-mile.

Securable, Finnigan, No Ofi fence and Kory Grattan also went pleasingly. The strong wind and slow track prevented any horses qualifying. The best time in the four heats was 3min 30 4-saec returned by Stalemate a three-year-old colt by Bachelor Hanover from Bonny Star in F. E. Newfield’s Templeton team.
