Earthquake claims

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Aug. 31. 'Nearly 80 claims have been received by the Earthquake and War Damage Commission's resident assessor in Greymouth after the sharp earthquake on the West Coast on August 14. Two-thirds of the claims are for cracked chimneys, water heating cylinders, and fireplaces. The total amount of the claims is not expected to be assessed for several months. However, most of them are small.

Greymouth residents have made most of the claims and others have been received from places between Stockton, in the Buller area, and Harihari, in South Westland. A woman resident of Blackwater, near Reefton, who owned a rare collection of bottles, has claimed for some of the bottles that were broken during the earthquake.
