CADETS IN TRAINING

Cadets attending training camps throughout the country during the present school holidays appear to be as numerous as ever, and several training officers consider that interest in the New Zealand Cadet Force, as it is now known, is growing. Several North Island schools which bad earlier dropped cadet training are seeking to re-establish it, In camp at Burnham 223 Army cadets are training in non - commissioned - officer courses. This afternoon 64 senior N.C.O. cadets will move-to McLeans Island; near West Melton, forathree-day adventure-type camp. At the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram 30 Air Training Corps cadets are undergoing electronic training and 12 cadet under-offi-cers are taking part in an aviation studies course.

Air Training Corps cadets from the South Island are engaged in a number of training courses in the North Island. Twenty are on an under-officers’ course at Ohakea and 10 are on a cadet officers’ command course at Base Auckland. Another 15 are taking a cadet engineering course at Woodbourne. The size of A.T.C. squadrons is reported to be growing. Sea cadets from open and school units are also on courses at H.M.N.Z.S. Tamaki.
