Decrease in unemployed

WELLINGTON, Aug. 6.

The number of unemployed registered with the Department of Labour decreased from 4239 at July 16 to 4136 at July 30, the Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall) said today Of these, 2443 were receiving the unemployment benefit, an increase of 104 on the figures returned at July 16.

Male enrolments decreased by 107 and female enrolments increased by four during the period. Seven districts reported increases in registered unemployed and 11 districts recorded decreases. The highest increase was in Hastings where the number increased by 107. All districts in the southern region recorded decreases with the exception of Nelson, which recorded an increase of three.
