CONTAINER CRANE

Preparation for ACT 3 (N.j. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 3. The Wellington Harbour Board's new million-dollar container -crane should be ready for use when the first all-container ship arrived on August 16, said the chief engineer of the board (Mr K. S. Renner) today. The crane has moved up and down the berth and lifted empty containers, and weights up to 70 tons will be lifted on Thursday for Marine Department tests. Mr Renner said the tests should be completed and two drivers trained when the Pace Line’s all-container ship ACT 3 arrived from North America.

The board’s new tug, the Kupe, should arrive from Whangarei on August 12, and be ready to assist the ACT 3 into the container berth.
