TRANSFER DISPUTE

Reply made to club The secretary of the Southern League Council (Mr M. Pahi) has replied to a claim by the president of the New Brighton soccer club (Mr R. Storer) over the dispute which arose by the transfer of New Brighton’s match with Technical to a later date. Mr Storer said this week that New Brighton had received no acknowledgement to its protest letter nor had been told when or whether it would be considered. Mr Pahi said yesterday that he had sent a letter on July 14 to the club’s acting secretary (Mr A. R. Hutson) outlining the whole procedure.

“In the letter I put forward the suggestion that New Brighton and Technical could meet on Sunday, July 25, but I understand this was not acceptable to Brighton because one of its players, N. Francis, was required for the Canterbury under 18 team on the same day,” Mr Pahi said.

“It is incorrect of Mr Storer to say that no notification had been given to the club. Perhaps Mr Storer, instead, had not been informed of the matter by his own club.”

Brighton and Technical, the leading clubs for the Southern League championship, were due to meet today as a curtain-raiser to the national league match, but the C.F.A. wanted it played on another date so as not to lose a possible big gate for the association. It has now been transferred to Wednesday, August 25, under floodlights.
