Assurance to Taiwan

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent/ TOKYO, July 23. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton) has said that he had assured the Taiwan Government that. New Zealand’s policy towards Taiwan would not change, despite American moves towards closer contact with Peking. Mr Shelton said he had invited Taiwan to send a trade mission to New Zealand, and had offered his full co-opera-tion to enable the Taiwanese to sell more goods. He said he had reiterated the Government’s strong attitude that it wanted Taiwan to remain in the United Nations, and would not support any arrangement that would involve its expulsion if Peking were admitted.
