New Brighton team mates lifted the stern of the craft from the water so the propeller was clear—but still he could not get the engine to start He could not get the boat to the start line—and was out of the final. The trophy and $600 went to the North Island for the first time since the inception of the event when the Auckland boat, Miss Pall Mall, driven by 19-year-old G. Thoms, won easily.
