Bompa, Triton go well

“The Press’* Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Bompa, which resumes at the Taumarunui meeting next Saturday week, and his stablemate, Triton, attracted attention when they galloped at Woodville yesterday morning. Work was done on the inside grass, which was soft. Bompa and Triton were not after time when they ran five furlongs in Imta 5 2-osec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Both have made good progress since being brought back into training. Bompa, which has not raced since breaking down in Sydney last spring, will be ridden by W. D. Skelton in the open sprint at Te Awamutu. Bompa will accompany Triton, Classic Mission and Classic Nature to Riccarton for the Grand National meeting after his race in the north. S. A. Brown will make no decision about a trip to Australia until after the Grand National meeting. Antipodes pleased when, carrying a heavier weight than Lionada, he beat his companion by a length and a half and clocked Imln 7 3-ssec for five furlongs, the last three in 41 3-ssec. Antipodes races in the Carnarvon Hack Handicap on SaturMy Token ran five furlongs in Imin 13 3-ssec, the last three in 44 2-ssec. Petone worked well for a jumper when he ran six furlongs in Imin 22 4-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. Stay Red recorded Imin 25sec for six furlongs, the final three in 41sec. Kote Maori ran the same distance in Imin 25sec, taking 40 4-ssec for the last three. Ice Queen and Julie Royal ran five furlongs in Imin 6 3-ssec, the last three in 40 2-ssec. Ice Queen, a last-start maiden winner at Hastings, is in the Carnarvon Hack Handicap. Banquet was sent over two rounds of country, jumping 15 fences in all. He gave a good exhibition for a novice, his only mistake being at the third last fence, when he ran off. Banquet, a tearaway type, has been weakening in liis races so far this winter, but jumping may help to steady him. He is in the Winter Cup Trial on Saturday.
