Tributes to work of Mr L. S. Smart
Tributes to the efforts on behalf of the club and Addington Raceway made by Mr L. S. Smart, who did not seek re-election to the committee, were paid by the president (Mr S. C. Cordner) at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting | Club yesterday. Mr Smart was elected a; member of the club in 1945 j and he became a steward the] Inext year. He joined the i committee in 1952 and was] president for four years from : 1960. He was elected a life I; member in 1962. s **************' ;
i “Through Mr Smart’s efforts, mobile starting was ■ re-introduced, and ,he spent ; many hours in the perfection of the design of the mobile starting gate, which is owned by this club and has been used at Addington and other [courses for a number of years,” said Mr Cordner. “Mr Smart also served a pong term as a director of Addington Raceway. Ltd, and ’was the prime mover in the [introduction of the low running rail and many other improvements carried out at 'Addington.” Officers elected: —president, Mr Cordner vice-president, IMr S.
