Members of the Maori Women’s Welfare League should be "instrumental in educating our Maori people to have more faith in hospitals and their doctors and members of their staff,” the league’s annual conference decided in New Plymouth today. In moving a remit recommending this, the Hawera independent branch said that in spite of great scientific advances, many people were reluctant to accept treatment available and had on occasions removed children, and at great expense and possible harm, taken them long distances for the advice of faith healers.
