Christchurch Boys’ High beats Waitaki, 12-8

OAMARU. Winning a large snare of the ball from line-outs, rucks and set scrums. Christchurch Boys' High School beat Waitaki Boys' High School, 12-B, at Milner Park, Oamaru, yesterday. Waitaki led, B-a, at half-time. Played in heavy mud after intermittent morning showers, the match produced a fine display of Rugby. Both teams handled very well considering the conditions, in which players slid several yards on being tackled and the water bucket was called out on a number of occasions to sluice mud from the eyes of players. Waitaki held the advantage in the opening stages of the game, but Christchurch Boys’ Ugh gradually got on top, and although it did not draw ahead until nine minutes in the second spell looked the obvious winner. Waitaki, however, came back in the last quarter and had Christchurch fully extended. A badly-bouncing ball on a couple of occasions robbed it of tries. Both sets of forwards played with purpose with the honours going to the visitors. There was none better in the Christchurch pack than the replacement, A. Martin, who made a number of hard runs as well as serving well as No. 2 in the line-out. The hooker, G. Patterson, outhooked his opposition, claiming nine tight-heads to none. He also used his feet to advantage in foot rushes in the mud. J.

Oldridge gave good service in the line-out at No. 8. The pick of the backs was the first five-eighths, D. Ward, who handled faultlessly. G. Mason made some good runs on the wing and the full-back, J.
