Combined side to play Lions
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH After a match in Levin yesterday, the Manawatu and Horowhenua Rugby selectors (Messrs O. W. Gleeson and L. G. Wheeler) announced the Manawatu-Horowhenua team to play the Lions in Palmerston North on August 4. The team Is:— J. G. Francis (Manawatu), J. F. Karam (Horowhenua). J. D. Brennan (Manawatu), R. Twentyman (Manawatu), G. L Tuarau (Manawatu), R. E. Burgess (Manawatu), B. J. Cuff (Manawatu, captain), R. G. Myers (Manawatu), J. W. Betty (Horowhenua), M. A. Oram (Manawatu). J. A. Callesen (Manawatu). K. A. Evelelgh (Manawatu), G. T. Rohloff, G W. McKenzie, P. C. Harris. Reserves: P. B. Keen (Horowhenua), K. W. Granger (Manawatu), K. W. Cutforth (Horowhenua), K. W. Halldone (Horowhenua).
The pack will average 14st 101 b a man and the average height will be 6ft Qin. Callesen is the tallest of the pack at 6ft sin, and Oram—his locking partner—is the heaviest at 17st, and he stands 6ft 4in. Myers, at No. 8, is another tall forward — 6ft 3in.
