Turner helps in win
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. Worcestershire scored its eighth win in ten John Players Sunday League games at Worcester where it beat Essex by eight wickets at the week-end.
After Essex had been shot out for 125 in 35 overs, the Worcestershire openers, G. Turner, of New Zealand, and the West Indian, R. Headley (57 not out) put on 76 for the first wicket to place their county within sight of victory.
A crow'd of 18,000 at Leeds saw, Lancashire, the holder of the: John Player title, beat its old enemy, Yorkshire, by 48 runs. I Results: At Folkestone: Kent beat Leicestershire by nine wickets. Leicestershire 168/9 (40 overs innings closed—D. Underwood 4/26), Kent 169/1 (26 overs—M. Denness 83 not out, Iqbal 49 not out). Kent 4 points.
At Worcester: Worcestershire beat Essex by eight wickets. Essex 124 (35 overs—E. Hemsley 4/42), Worcestershire 125/2 (36.2 overs—R. Headley 57 not out). Worcestershire 4 points. At Hove: Sussex beat Middlesex by 130 runs. Sussex 217/6 (38 overs—M. Buss 67, J. Larks 58; F. Titmus 5/28), Middlesex 87 (26.4 overs—R. Greig 6/28, J. Snow 3/21). Sussex 4 points.
At Glastonbury: Somerset beat Hampshire by 67 runs. Somerset 164/7 (40 overs innings closed—P. Sainsbury 4/34), Hampshire 97 (33.1 overs—R. Lewis 52). Somerset 4 points. At Brackley: Gloucestershire beat Northamptonshire by 9 runs. Gloucestershire 179/7 (40 overs innings closed), Northamptonshire 170/7 (40 overs—Mustaq 41, Nawaz 40 not out). Gloucestershire 4 points.
