LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

(1) Letters to be considered for this column must not exceed 150 words. They should be on only one side of the paper; preferably typewritten, otherwise clearly written in ink; and ample margins and space between lines should be left for convenience in sub-editing. (2) A legible signature and full address —not a P.O. box number are required whether these are to be printed or not (3) The correspondent must say whether the letter has been or is to be submitted elsewhere. (4) The editor cannot return or keep any letter not accepted for printing; nor does he undertake to acknowledge or enter into correspondence concerning letters, although an acknowledgement will be made where this seems to be necessary or helpful. (5) As a general rule, correspondence on news items in other publications, or carried on radio and television, is not acceptable.

George Kelly.—Likely to be too hard on our space. Peter Watson.—Thank you. Amends offered elsewhere. Me Too.—We should think your blanket is faulty. All-comers. —Correspondence on apartheid closed for the time being. Joyce Sumpter.—We see no need for a general discussion of the poster at this stage. I. R. Densem.—We see no need to reopen tills subject just now. i R. H. Langdon (Auckland) and Ruth Hogg (Hamilton).—See rules above. E.A.J.-?-Letter and reply printed for information only. We are not opening a general discussion on the Town Hall mural. Backblocks.—Only if you are prepared to give your name and address, so that respondents may write to you direct. Ailsa M. Smeaton.—We understand the use of the Queenstown reserve is to be the subject of court action. Interested.—We do not recall that it was ‘‘secretive,” and we have no space to reopen discussion on fluoridation. E. D. Walker.—Many will share your views on “peace fasts”; many will take a contrary view. Few will be persuaded by discussion to change their minds. R. E. Hall.—The matter might yet be taken to appeal, when your contentions would of course be tested. In the meantime discussion is not in order. Alarmed.—The secretary of the Christchurch Metropolitan Ratepayers’ Association is Miss E. McDavitt, 494 Manchester Street (telephone 77-951) and the association’s box number is 13256 Armagh.
