Under-21 netball team making debut
The Canterbury under-21 netball team faces a difficult initiation in representative play when it meets an experienced South Canterbury side at Timaru today. Designed to encourage younger senior players and assist in raising their standard of performance, the under-21 experiment was approved by the provincial executive earlier this year. The squad has been training under the guidance of the Canterbury and South Island selector. Miss J. Murray, and a pleasing improvement in its combination has been noticeable. This will be put to the test at Timaru,
where the opposition will include the New Zealand trialists, F. Rawston, M. O'Loughlin, and K. Hobson. J. Burney, the Riccarton wing defence, will captain the under-21 team. The other members are D. Shearer (Riccarton), C. Townley (Teachers' College B), M. McLaughlan (Sacred Heart), L. Norris (Hagley), J. Lichfield (Teachers’ College A), D. Barnett (Teechers' College A) and S. Ralne (Riccarton). Next Saturday the aide will have its first home fixture when it plays the Hutt Valley senior representatives.
