Pain-killing gas approved
The use of a new painkilling gas, called entonox, in Christchurch ambulances, was approved at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Centre of the St John Ambulance Association on Thursday evening. Entonox is in use already for pain relief of patients carried by Lyttelton subcentre ambulances and by vehicles of the Wellington Free Ambulance Association. The gas had thte effect of dispelling a patient’s anxiety, said the centre’s secretary (Mr G. A. Brown). Special equipment costing about $7OO would have to be bought, and use of entonox could not be implemented for several weeks yet.
