WELLINGTON, July 16.
Broadcasting was an ephemeral medium of transmitting information by sound and vision and did not require recording, said the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Walker) today. He was answering a question frorn Mr G. F. Gair (Nat., North Shore) who asked what rules were set by the Broadcasting Authority or the N.Z.B.C. on rentention for at least a limited period of film or videotape or sound tape, especially of programmes likely to prove contentious and therefore provoke or justify reply or rebuttal. “The Broadcasting . Authority Act states that within at least three months of broadcast a station may be required to supply information concerning any programme,” Mr Walker said. Asked if tapes were available, he said that live broadcasts were not usually recorded, and that applications would normally be made to the authority, which would seek tapes if they were available from the station.
