Doctor in demand

The Lions’ manager (Dr D. W. C. Smith) has found his services as a medical man much in demand during the last two days since an influenza bug struck the touring team. Sore throats and chesty coughs have been the principal signs of discomfort. Yesterday eight players and one of the British sports writers were down with the bug, and after a brief consultation between Dr Smith and the Lions’ coach (Mr G R. James) it was decided to call off the planned practice at the Napier Boys’ High School ground.

Some of the players—coughing and wheezing—stayed in bed, but the others found inspiration for forthcoming matches by watching die dolphins disport themselves at Napier’s Marineland.
