Interest in telex
Interest has grown during the last fortnight in the new public telex service offered by the Post Office.
Since the service began on July 1 in the four main centres there had been a steady flow of business, the Acting Chief Postmaster (Mr J. S. Malthus), said yesterday.
Surprisingly, he said, all the business had been to international addresses, indicating that firms with connections overseas were using the service to obtain written messages in preference to obtaining information by telephone.
Mr Malthus said that a large number of inquiries had been made by small firms interested in the new system. It saved them the unmanageable expense of having their own full-time service. While all the business so rar had been on international circuits it was likely that the internal service would be used extensively in the coming months.
Mr Malthus said the great a’vantage of the system was that it ensured that anyone using it would get a reply in Wrung thus minimising the risk of error.
