Darfield Church
Sir, —For centuries the people have adorned their churches with stained-glass windows, carved pews, communion silver, and paintings, and planted, with loving artistic care, oak trees and yews among the gravestones. So did the first worshippers who built the Darfield Church a circlet of green growing with the generations. And now, desecration by the authorities, ecclesiastic and civic. —Yours, etc., _ NO MORE JOY.
July 2, 1971. [The Malvern County Clerk (Mr B. Perrin) replies: “The policy of the Malvern County Council is not to reply to anonymous correspondence in the newspapers. However, in this case, the council would Bke it to be known that the removal of trees from the Anglican and Presbyterian Church land was done with the full accord of the property owners for the sole purpose of realigning roads to eliminate the present complicated and dangerous junction of six roads and replacing it with a standard T intersection. When completed it is considered that the risk of accidents at the corner will be vastly reduced.”]
