6000 TRAINED
A leading Christchurch driving school, the Allen Driving School, is now celebrating 20 years of operation in Christchurch. In this time more than 6000 pupils have obtained their driving licences through the school. The school has had up to three instructors, and the three Morris Minors in its fleet have been used almost from the beginning, and now have a combined mileage of more than a million miles.
The school was the first to introduce dual-control cars to Christchurch, and in the 20 years none of the school’s cars have been involved in an intersection
GT7O plans
Strikes at the Ford plants in Britain have delayed a decision by the company on the possible production of the mid-engined two-seater GT7O sports car. However, it is hoped that the car will make its first appearance in an international rally before the end of this year. If the GT7O is ever produced for limited sale to the public, it is thought that a 1600 c.c.-englned model would cost a British buyer the equivalent of about $4OOO, and a 3-litre . car would cost about another $2OOO.
Transport in 1981 World experts on road safety, vehicle emission control, and vehicle design will address the national convention of the Society of Automotive Engineers of Australasia in Melbourne this October. The theme of the conference is “Transportation 1981.” At the technical sessions: experts from many parts of the world will present papers on possible solutions in planning future city transport systems, the prospects of new power sources and factors concerning the communities, drivers and vehicles of 1981. The convention is not restricted to members of the S.A.E., and the association has said any persons interested in the problems facing transporaition in the future will be welcome.

Since the school started in 1951, its advertisement has appeared in every issue of "The Press.” TAKEN OVER The Marcos Car Company in Britain, makers of sports cars, have been taken over by the Rob Walker Group of Companies, and a new company, Marcos, Ltd, has been set up. Production of the Marcos range of sports cars will continue; but only for the British market. The firm has a $250,000 factory in Wiltshire.
