VIETNAM WAR

University lectures

Five students of the war in Indo-China will discuss its origin and conduct in a special series of public lectures to be given during the' next two weeks at the University of Canterbury. Each lecture will be based ;on a biblical theme. The first, entitled “In the Beginning,” which will be a discussion of the Vietnam War, is by Dr E. F. Countryman, lecturer in history at Canterbury, and Mr L. F. J. Ross, former chairman of the Bertrand Russell Peace : Foundation. At the second meeting,: called “And Fire Rained i Down From Heaven,” Mr N.j S. Roberts, a lecturer in Political Science, will speak on the escalation of the war and- on its expansion from Vietnam to all of Indo-China. The third and fourth meetings will be on the consequences of the war for IndoChina and for New Zealand. Mr B. Hockey, a lecturer in geography, will discuss the effects of the war on the ecology of Indo-China, and Mr W. Rosenberg, a reader in economics, will talk about the lessons to be drawn from New Zealand involvement in the war.
