TASMAN DAIRY TALKS

(N.Z.P.A, Staff Correspondent) MELBOURNE, July 15. Australian Dairy Produce Board officials would meet members of the New Zealand Dairy Board for talks in Wellington next month, the general manaboard (Mr E. B. Gilbert) said today. He told N.Z.P.A. in a telephone interview that the Australian delegation would probably be led by the deputy chairman of the board (Mr J. D. Norton).

The meeting will enable both boards to have wideranging discussions on the effects of Britain’s proposed entry to the European Common Market.

The boards have kept in close touch over E.E.C. developments, but this will be the first time officials have met since the negotiations over British entry and safeguards for New Zealand dairy products at Luxemburg last month.

Australia is concerned that her butter and cheese exports will be shut out of Britain after 1973, leaving her with a large unsaleable surplus. Concern has also been expressed in some circles that Australia and New Zealand could clash in their drive for new markets after British entry. These and other matters arising from Britain’s move into Europe will be investigated in Wellington.
