Ebert at trials
The Commonwealth Games silver medallist, A. J. Ebert, of Canterbury, is likely to improve further his rating in world weight-lifting when he takes part in trials in Auckland this week-end for the world weight-lifting championships in Peru in September. Also taking part in Auckland will be the New Zealand Olympic lifting representative J. Bolton (middle heavy-weight) and B. Marsden (light heavy-weight), both of whom have yet to produce qualifying lifts for the world championships. Ebert, ./ho holds the Commonwealth record for the press of 3031 b has already qualified for competition in tiie world championships. He raised a total of 9091 b in Christchurch at the recent South Island championships. Ebert is well known for improving his performance under the stimulus of hard competition. Because of this he is likely to produce still better total figures when he competes at Auckland against Marsden who is a weight above Ebert and has lifted a total of 9131 b this season.
His presently attainable press of somewhere in the region of 3141 b, and his recently improved snatch lift of 2641 b could give him a total for the trio of Olympic lifts of about 9301 b.
According to his coach, Mr ! H. Morrison, who was the ■ official coach for the New ; Zeayand team at the Commonwealth Games, Ebert is a'ready the best middle-weight ! |yet produced in New Zealand |or Australia.
