Productivity promotion

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 14. The Government has a specific responsibility to promote a programme to increase productivity, the National Development Council decided today. In a statement released by the council’s chairman, the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall), after a meeting today, the council said it considered that a central body should co-ordinate this programme. Earlier, members heard a report from Mr C. M. Cairns, chairman of the advisory committee on productivity studies, recommending that a productivity council be set up. The National Development Council has not accepted this recommendation, but today decided to set up a special committee of council members to investigate the proposal.
