Manapouri delays
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 14. Controversy surrounding proposals for Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri is delaying the: development of the waters of the lakes, according to the Ministry of Works chief power engineer (Mr W. M. Duncan). In his section of the Ministry’s annual report, tabled in Parliament, Mr Duncan said that completion of the power generation part of the Manapouri development was near at hand, and attention was principally directed at investigations and design proposals for control of the waters of Te Anau and Manapouri. “In the circumstances of controversy surrounding the scheme,” he said, “difficulties are being experienced in planning construction for the remaining works, and these are expected to persist until the matters in dispute are settled.”
