Eventful second season

The former Canterbury and New Zealand Rugby league scrum-half, R. S. J. Irvine, has been having an eventful second season with the Walgett club in Northern New South Wales. Irvine was selected as the captain-coach of the representative Group 15 team early in the season, and has since been invited to coach an allAborigine side which will travel to Sydney in September. However, Irvine has also had his nose broken twice had an eye cut in aonther match, and missed three club fixtures because of broken ribs. It appears certain that Walgett will reach the premiership semi-finals, having won six of its 11 matches to be in third place.
