M.I.M. lets contracts worth $2O million
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 14.' The chairman of M.I.M. Holdings, Ltd (Mr J. W. Foots), said today the company had let contracts worth well over s2om for work at Mount Isa, Queensland. All ot the contracts were related either to the continuing expansion of mining at Mount Isa or housing the workforce.
One of the contracts is for : the construction of No. 4i (copper) concentrator by Citra Constructions Pty, Ltd, at a total cost of sl2m, said Mr Foots. The total cost , of the new concentrator, with ancillaries for trade creating of 16,000 tons of copper ore a day had been estimated at s39m, he added. Mr Foots said that the installation of a fourth boiler and 33mw alternator, at Mica Creek power station, near Mount Isa, would cost more than ssm. The boiler contract went to Babcock and Wilson Australia,. Ltd, and the turbo alternator contract to C. A. Parsons of Australia, Ltd. Both companies are already working on the station's No. 3 boiler and alternator which is scheduled for completion next March. Richardson Fan Pty, Ltd, of Victoria, was awarded a contract to construct a onemillion cub. ft a minute downcast primary mine ventilation fan, which Mr Foot said was estimated to cost $600,000. A contract worth $500,000 has been i awarded to Thiess Bros Pty, Ltd. to build earthworks, and drainage near the main mine area. I Mr Foot also announced . housing contracts, including earthworks, worth nearly
ssm. About 225 homes had already been completed, and 149 were nearing completion in addition to the 278 for which M.I.M. was now letting contracts.
