Peninsula power cut
Electricity consumers in Little River, Port Levy, and Kinloch were without power from before daybreak until about 3.30 p.m. yesterday when a Central Canterbury Electric Power Board transformer was damaged by the effects of a pole top fire caused by an Insulator flashing over. To avoid the problem of emergency handling of a seven-ton replacement, the board borrowed two smaller transformers from the North Canterbury board; these were taken from Rangiora to Little River to restore supply.
