Statement by doctor

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 13. The scientific secretary of the Medical Research Council (Dr J. V. Hodge) said today that an incorrect impression might have been drawn from remarks attributed to him in a Press Association message from Dunedin last week. The message quoted Dr Hodge as saying that the council was not prepared to say that marijuana was harmful to the individual or society, he said. "Actually -I was careful to avoid committing the council to any opinion which might be interpreted as prejudging such an important issue," he said. ‘Such an implication might have been avoided had the word “harmless” instead of "harmful” been used in the report, but neither word accurately conveyed the meaning of his statement, said Dr Hodge.
