Prescription drugs
Next is abuse of medicallyprescribed drugs, and with a drug bill which is going to be of the order of $3O million this year, plus perhaps $8 million spent on “over-the-counter” drugs, it is also a problem of huge proportions. Obviously the medical profession has a part to play in this one, even more than the first two, as this $3O million worth of drugs is being prescribed by doctors. I seriously think, and I know many doctors who would agree with me, that the community would be healthier if only half this sum was spent on drugs. Drugs will no more produce good health than legislation will produce good behaviour Well, why do doctors prescribe so much in the way of drugs?
