Prince Franz Josef
Prince Franz Josef, of Thum and Taxis, the head of one of Europe's oldest families, has died in Regensburg Castle, West Germany, aged 77. He was the ninth Prince of Thum and Taxis. His mother was Archduchess Margaret of Austria, Princess of Hungary, and his father, Prince Albert of Thum and Taxis. After First World War service in the family-led 2nd Bavarian Chevauxleger Regiment, Prince Franz Josef married Princess Elizabeth of Braganza, Infanta of Portugal. Their only son, Prince Gabriel, died during the Second World War, at the Battle of Stalingrad. Prince Franz Josef was a direct descendant Of the emperor after whom the South Island glacier was named.—Regensburg, July 14,
