Super Beetle

The new Volkswagen “Super Beetles” are now being assembled in New Zealand, and are seen on the roads in ever-increasing numbers. The new model is slightly larger externally than the 1500 "Beetle,” it has a 1600 c.c. engine, more luggage capacity, through-flow ventilation, and revised suspension to improve handling and roadholding.

With the new suspension, the Super Beetle also has a tighter turning circle than the 1500 models—it will turn in only 31.5 ft compared with more than 37ft for the other cars. The 1600 c.c. engine in the Super produces 60 b.h.p. but has the comparatively low compression ratio of 7.5 to 1. The car is available with automatic transmission.
