EMISSIONS CENTRE

A new emission laboratory claimed to be the most technically advanced in Europe has been opened at Ford of Britain’s research and engineering centre in Essex. The company’s $2 million investment in vehicle emission engineering will ensure that by the end of this year the company will be building engines which will meet all current and pending European emission standards.

Within a year, two-thirds of all Ford engines will be sold with carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emission controls as standard equipment. The remainder will be converted within the next two years. With a floor area more than 26,000 sq. ft, the laboratory has been designed and equipped to deal with current and proposed engine emission requirements in all markets until at least 1975.
