RAILWAY BOWLS
Last year's winner, A. E. WUUamson, won the Railway Club annual Ashby Bergh Cup indoor bowls {ours tournament. Nineteen of the original 65 teams qualified for post-section Play. In the final, Williamson’s opponent, P. Shearer, led 5-3 after seven ends. However, Shearer's No. 3, D. Smyth, killed the jack on the tenth and eleventh ends to put WUUamson four ahead with one end to play. Shearer had a single on the final end and went down 10-7.
Results were: First round: B. Stewart 8, G. Lancaster 5; L. McLennan 7, Mrs M. Wood 5; Mrs M. McGuire 15, T. RowseU 10. Second round: Mrs L. Stapleton 11, E. Franks 3; L. Whinray 11, A. Qulrke 4; Shearer 10, Mrs M. McGuire 2: J. Kelly 8, C. R. Ward 2: McLennan 4, Stewart 2; F. Perham 7, R. Watkin 4; Williamson 8, V. Taylor 4; Mrs A. HUI 10, T. Brown 9. Third round: Mrs Stapleton 7, Whinray 3; Shearer 6, Mrs HUI 5; Kelly 8, McLennan 5; WUUamson 8, Perham 7. Semi-finals: Shearer 7, Mrs Stapleton 4; WUUamson 9, J. Kelly A Final: T. Mounce, G. W. Thomas, N. S. Benny WUUamson (s) 10, H. Hullett, D. Walker, D. Smyth, Shearer (s) 7.
