Oils strong again while others ease slightly

Australian markets closed on a fractionally easier tone yesterday. Strong support for the oils continued, but min* ing and industrial stocks fell slightly.

The oils again stood out, both in strength and volume. Woodside held on to its good position, and closed 4c lower at 94c. The 30c paid shares dropped 1c to 73c. Ampol Ex. rose 8c to 118 c. Ashburton, Basin Oil, Flinders, Mid East, and Beach firmed marginally. Magellan shed 5c to 145 c, and Timor and N.S.W. Oil and Gas fell 3c each.

The mining market was mixed. Poseidon stood out falling 250 c to 2800 c-. The Bougainville rights eased 5c to 205 c, New B. H. fell 15c to 1205 c, but C.R.A. rose 10c to 890 c.

Hamersley and Gt Boulder were marginally firmer, while Peko dropped 10c to 1000 c. Speculatives were also rather erratic. Spargos peaked at 235 c, and closed 30c higher at 235 c while Whim Creek rose 30c to 440 c.

Australian Developments, M.1.M., Mallina, Mareeba, Nth Kalgurli, Peerless, and South-

land were all marked down, while B.H. Sth, Con. Mining, Conwest, Jensen, Murchison, and Norseman were a little higher. Industrials were quiet, and slightly easier. B.H.P. lost a further 10c to 1380 c, and Comalco shed 7c to 395 c. E.Z.I. rose 12c to 315 c. SYDNEY Sales.—Ampol, 64; Ansett, 66; A.W.A., 133; A.G.C., 195; A.N.1., 96; 8.N.5.W., 604; 81.
