Manapouri move soon

WELLINGTON, June 20. The Government would be able to make a final decision on Manapouri soon, the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake) said at the national Save Manapouri Campaign’s third conference in Wellington at the week-end. Speaking to nearly 50 delegates representing about 28 national conservation groups, the Prime Minister said that enough had been heard and known about the issue for the Government to make up its mind “at an early date.” This would be done as “expeditiously as it is possible for the machinery of Government to move/’
The Labour member of Parliament for Palmerston North (Mr J, A. Walding) said: “We haven’t got the time some people think we have.” He reaffirmed Labour’s policy not to raise the lake.
