Women in glasses
(N.Z. Press Association)
WANGANUI, June 21.
The feminine fear that men “don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses,” caused some amusement at the annual conference of the New Zealand National Travel Association in Wanganui yesterday.
A remit submitted by the Auckland branch of the association made a plea to people responsible for the printing and presentation of menus to give consideration to the use of larger type sizes, which could be read without having to don a pair of spectacles. Mrs A. McMillan put forward the remit, taking her reading glasses from her handbag to do so. She said 70 per cent of the population over the age of 40 wore glasses for reading. Speaking to a predominantly male audience, Mrs McMillan said it was slightly deflating to the female ego to have to carry a handbag large enough to hold a pair of spectacles when dining out at
night No-one spoke against the remit and it was passed.
