Parcel post to China

(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 21

A parcel post service to China would be introduced by the Post Office on July 1, said the Postmaster-General

(Mr McCready) today. At present the postal service to the Chinese mainland is restricted to letters and small packets.

The Minister said that addresses for parcels and letters must include the words “Peoples Republic of China” as articles bearing “Republic of China” or “Mainland China” written in either Chinese or English would be sent back to New Zealand by surface mail for return to the sender.

Rates will be 78c for parcels weighing up to 21b, $1.30 up to 71b, $1.92 up to 111 b and $3.61 up to 221 b. The air parcel rate will be 91c for each Boz.
