(Israel). June 21. Two international grandmasters, L. Kavalek, of the United States, and B. Parma, of Jugoslavia, tied for the first place in the final round of the ninth international chess tournament. Both scored 10 of a possible 15 points. Two American international grandmasters, S. Reshevsky and P. Benko, took the second and third places. Kavalek started the last round half a point behind Parma and fought a 10-hour battle to defeat the international master, B. Zuckerman, also an American. Reshevsky defeated the Finish international master. H. Westerinen, and the Australian W. Browne drew with the American, A. Bisguier, to take the fourth place.

Golf.—N. Cole* won the CarroUs International golf tournament at Woodbrook. County Dublin, with a final round of 68. r. Oosterhuis (Britain) was second and P. W. Thomson third.
