Obituary Mr E. Berry
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. The death occurred suddenly in Greymouth on Tuesday evening of Eric Charles Berry, one of the West Coast’s best known residents and a member of the Racing Conference. He was 63 years of age. He bought a farm at Atarau 30 years ago, and had retired from it only a few months ago to live with his wife in Greymouth.
Mr Berty waa a keen sportsman, and played for the Harihart Rugby Club in the earlier days of Its formation. When living at Atarau, Mr Berry took a very prominent part In all local affairs. He was president of the MoonlightSlatey Creek Sports Club, and of the Ikamatua Bowling Club, and chairman of the Atarau School Committee for several years. He waa president of the Greymouth Jockey Club for a number of years and* was the Greymouth district committee’s representative on the Racing Conference for a few yean up to the 1969-70 season. He was re-elected to that position only last week. Mr Berry was chairman of directors of the West Coast Farmers’ Co-operative Lime Company from 1957 until the time of his death, and was a member of West Coast Federated Farmers.
