DISMISSALS IN WARSAW
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)
WARSAW, June 16.
Four senior officials in Poland’s Ministry of Interior, which is responsible for the State’s secret police, have been dismissed and arrested-
The announcement of this came only three days after Major-General Ryszard Matepewski, Vice-Minister of the Department, had been dismissed for unexplained reasons.
A reorganisation of the Ministry seems to be in full swing since Mr Stainislaw Kania, a member of the Com; munist Party secretariat, became its “guiding light.” A Politburo member, Mr Mieczyslaw Moczar, the hardliner who until recently was undoubtedly the party overlord at the Ministery before suffering a mysterious illness, is now in Helsinki having been assigned to the small task of leading a Polish delegation in talks with the Cenfrol Committee of the Finnish Communist Party.
