VEGETABLE GROWERS

Record s29m for year (N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, June 16. A record s29m return for market growers in the last financial year was reported at the national conference of the Vegetable and Produce Growers’ Federation in Blenheim this afternoon.

It was doubtful whether bouyant market prices would be reflected in net profits because of substantial increases in almost every item of production and distribution costs, said the federation’s president (Mr T. H. Warburton). A more cautious planting programme after extremely low prices the previous season, and a generally strong consumer demand increased over-all returns $3.7m above the previous record year, 1968-69.
