CANONERO II
Sale reported in doubt (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter-Alopvrlpht) NEW YORK. Ooubts about the physical condition of the Venezuelanowned Canonero II are holding up the sale of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner to an American syndicate headed by the King Ranch of Texas, It was reported at the Belmont Park race course on Monday. Dr Robert Gerard, a veterinarian engaged by the syndicate to check Canonero 'IL said he was not satisfied with the horse's condition, and was calling in another veterinarian for his opinion. Sale denied
At the same time, the King Ranch trainer, W. Hirsch, denied a statement in Caracas by Canonero H’s owner, Mr Pedro Baptista, that the hone had been sold to King Ranch for SIJm. Hirsch said no deal would be completed until the status of Canonero II was clear. Dr Gerard said that Canonero II had a swelling In a right bock that had been recurring periodically since he finished fourth in the Belmont Stakes on j«as»» k The none also was running a temperature, and had an abnormally high white-cell blood count, he said.■
