Lincoln Road traffic
Sir,—Having just read the appalling list of week-end motor accidents I would like to point out to the Ministry of Transport the grave risk that bus passengers and pedestrians take in trying to cross the road at the comer of Lincoln Road and Barrington Street. Young people attend Canterbury Court and the Show Grounds in large numbers, and yesterday we saw a motorist drive through a crowd of people, tooting his horn. Surely they have a right to cross, the road being a public highway. This road is a very busy one, cars speeding both ways as well as pouring out of Barrington Street, and one risks one’s life trying to cross this road. A pedestrian' crossing is essential, and may help to slow down the road toll.—Yours, etc., I. S. BROWN. May 31, 1971. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) replies: “The pro-
vision of a pedestrian crossing in Lincoln Road at Bar rington Street intersection has been investigated but is not warranted at this stage. However, the situation will be kept under review. A pedestrian crossing, once installed, is effective at all hours of the day and night and this poses some problems when their is only occasional heavy demand.”]
