Interest in contracts

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 14. The Local Authorities (Members Interests) Amendment Bill, introduced in Parliament, increases from $lOOO to $2OOO the amount of an individual contract with a local authority in which a member can be concerned or interested without dispensation. The total amount of permissible contracts in a year is increased from $2OOO to $4OOO. The Leader of the Opposi- . tion (Mr Kirk) speaking to • the bill, said there was a clear case for examination of the situation where a local body member could vote on ’ alterations in zoning which * could change the zoning of a property in which the member had an interest and which would affect its value. “ This was not covered by the legislation. The bill was referred to the Local Bills Committee.
