LEADERS MARGINALLY LOWER IN HESITANT TRADING

Rises outnumbered falls in moderately active trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but the leaders had an easier tone. There were a number of good rises, however, and the index eased a marginal 0.40 to 291.00.

W. Sutherland stood out among the rises with a jump of 20c to 240 c in a delayed reaction to its 26.4 per cent rise in net profit and the proposed one-for-four bonus issue.

Alex Harvey continued to improve, rising sc. H. Berry, Motor Traders, and Tolley also rose 5c each. Falls among the leaders were confined to a maxi-

mum of 3c. Forest and South British fell this amount, Feltex and Fletcher Holdings eased 2c each, and A. B. Consol, Broadlands, and N.Z. News were a marginal 1c lower. Dominion, and New Zealand Breweries also eased 1c each.

Consolidated Brick was also prominent, the shares being 7c higher at 310 c, and the notes 10c better at 300 c.

New Zealand Motor Bodies improved 2c to 72c after its profit report, and Rothmans was 3c higher, at 118 c, on the news of an application for price increases. Tasman firined another 4c to 300 c.
