HIJACKING STATISTICS

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 14. One hundred and forty-six people have been involved in hijacking 113 United States airline planes since 1961, the Federal Aviation Administration says. Ninety-two of them are still at large.

The F.A.A. said 28 people have been convicted for air piracy and related crimes and are serving sentences totalling more than 350 years in prison. Twelve of those arrested are still facing trial or continued mental examinations. Criminal charges against eight others were dismissed and the hijackers were committed to mental institutions.
