Canadian move in Pacific

(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 10. The Canadian High Com- ! mission announced today the establishment of formal diplomatic relations with Tonga and Western Samoa. Mr J. A. Dougan, High Commissioner for Canada to New Zealand, will be concurrently High Commissioner for Canada in both countries. Making the announcement, the Canadian High Commission indicated that the appointment reflected Canada’s increasing interest in her relations with “Pacific rim” countries. Increasing emphasis on the Pacific area was a main feature of the 1970 review of Canadian foreign policy.
